Casa da Carmine

Tranquil and welcoming, Guesthouse Casa da Carmine is situated in the village of Castiglione Messer Raimondo in the central Italian region of Abruzzo. Known as "the green heart" of Italy for the three national parks it houses, Abruzzo offers guests the ability to enjoy mountians and sea, tiny hamlets and sophisticated towns, and to always be embraced by the warmth of its people. Just 2 and a half hours from Rome and 4 from Naples, or an easy  train ride from Florence or Venice, Guesthouse Casa da Carmine is a perfect location from which to explore the riches of Abruzzo and/or combine a stay with several days in a major city. Casa da Carmine offers guest quarters that include two bedrooms, private bath, sitting room, and a kithen equiped with all you need to dive into cooking your own splendid Italian meals!  Host Teresa Mastrobuono can design an itinerary tailored to your ideal Italian visit.

  • Fly into Rome's Fiumicino Airport

  • Drive a rental car or ride a comfortable "Pullman" bus to Pescara

  • Travel from Pescara to Guesthouse Casa da Carmine, where you are welcomed by host Teresa Mastrobuono or propery manager Laura Belisariso

  • Begin exploring the surrounding towns:  Bisenti, Atri, Citta' Sant' Angelo, Penne, Loreto Aprutino, Pineto, Pescara, Teramo

  • Let us know your favorite activities! Like nature? We can arrange walks, hikes, and mountain visits. Like beaches? There are several lovely and relaxing seaside towns within easy reach. Cooking classes? Wine tastings? Museum visits? We can arrange for all of these!

  • Festivals: During the late spring, summer and early fall, Abruzzo is alive with local celebrations. The "Seranata" in Montefino features traditional and contemporary music,as does the "Valfino in Canta" music festival in Arsita; the Medieval Festival of Elice is a splendor of history and theatrcal spectacle, the Festival of San Donato, patron saint of our town abounds with ritual and secular fun. 

  • Castles and hermitages: Abruzzo is known as "the little Tibet" because the number of its hermitages is second only to that country. These and our many ancient and evocative castles, such as Roccascalegna, transport you in time and feeling.

  • Cultural events: Abruzzo's main commercial city. Pescara, hosts many events: a jazz festival featuring the likes of Bobby McFerrin and Branford Marsalis, and even the "So You Want to Be Americana" festival featuring American rock music and food from the 50's and 60's!

  • Folk events: Each surrounding hosts street fairs highlighting local foods and crafts. The town of Atri displays its signature sweets, while the mountain town of Farindola celebrates its local peccorino cheese.  

  • Food: Did you know that visitors to Italy have voted Abruzzo's food the best in the country? It is fresh, local, and made according to tradition. We can guide you to the best places to find local specialties such as: arrosticini, porchetta, maccheroni alla chitarra, Pecorino cheese, and the fabulous and decadant multi-layer torte "pizza dolce". There are many more! You will never be hungry!
